Perfect Video Monitor for 3-Floor / 2000 sq feet Townhome + Garage March 2, 2010 D. Holoubek (Chicago) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having this monitor for 2 MONTHS now, I would give it 5 Stars. No need to bore you all with tons of info as this monitor is SUPER EASY. You plug in the camera and monitor and you're in business. No interference from 100's of townhouses around us, and no interference from top floor to bottom floor garage. Camera moves up and down and scans around 200 degrees of a room. Monitor doesn't give you a 360 degree picture, but it's not supposed to. Everything about this monitor is great from sound (picks up the lightest whimper / whisper) to picture in daylight or pitch dark. Nightly we plug in the receiver to charge; never changed batteries. We recommend it to all our friends.
interferes with wifi February 27, 2010 K. Uscinski (Phoenix, AZ) Everything in our home is WiFi. The moment we turned on this monitor, the speed of our WiFi dropped to 1Mbps. Using the Internet on a WiFi device was literally impossible. The second we turned it off, the speed went up back to 54Mbps. We tried different locations in the home but nothing helped. We liked the pan/zoom function, but the video and audio are nothing to write home about. This seems to be a good monitor, but not for a digital home. Returning it.
a/c cord for monitor failed after 12 weeks February 23, 2010 Christmas Baker (NYC) While this is a great monitor, the a/c power cord for the hand held monitor unit is malfunctioning after only 12 weeks of use. We have to twist, turn, squish the cord "just so" in order for it to recharge the battery. Evidently the way the cord is designed is flawed or the wire is substandard/defective and has broken. I've written to Summer customer service and am awaiting a response.
Terrible Monitor- DO NOT BUY unless you like your child crying at night and you don't know February 15, 2010 J. Smith (Houston, Tx) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Please do not buy this monitor. I have had it now for 5 months. I thought it was a good monitor and now it freezes up. I have woken up to it frozen and my son screaming his head off. Now it froze in the middle of the night and apparantly my son was crying for a long time and I did not know. He throws his blanket on the floor only when he has been crying a long time. I called customer service and they can not do anything about it. First she told me to turn the monitor off and on and it will fix it. Yes I know but I can't stay up all night checking the monitor. Then she told me to take out the battery and reboot. So I asked will this guarantee me it will never happen again. She says yes it will. Yeah right. Obviously there is something wrong with this monitor.
If you want to have your child screaming all night alone then go ahead and buy it. If not I would try another one.
Also summer infant does not stand by there brand. They will not refund my money. I have to take it up with the store. Stores do not take back products after 5 months so I guess I am out $200 and going to spend even more for a differnt monitor.
Excellent monitoring device February 14, 2010 Careful Consumer (Edenton, NC) This product works very well for us. We are home caring for a parent with Alzheimer's, and the ability to monitor her movements at night and at times during the day is essential to our success as caregivers. We use both this system and another we bought a couple of years ago that had the bonus (for our needs) of motion detection built into each camera. Unfortunately, that system only supports two cameras, and we found we needed more (and the system we bought before is apparently no longer available). The ability to pan and tilt with the Summer Infant camera makes it remarkably effective, although it should be noted that if you try to mount the camera on a vertical surface you will lose the ability to pan and tilt in a way your brain can relate to, so assume that you will need to set it on a horizontal surface. Also, it should be noted that this is a 2.4 GHz system, not 900 MHz as shown. That's an important distinction for us, since our other system is 900MHz and we use the two in close proximity. We also use WiFi with two computers and a printer and we have a 2.4 GHz phone system. Interference has not been a significant problem, although I have added chokes to power cords that don't have them (the Summer Infant cords do have them built-in).
The included battery has performed very well, and signal strength has generally not been a problem in a somewhat rambling single-story house. I have been able to carry the monitor outside to watch the dog and still maintained reception. Of course, with the digital technology of the Summer Infant system, you either have a picture or you don't, as opposed to variations of good to poor picture with our 900 MHz device. The automatic "time-out" feature of the video can be mildly annoying, but it's there to help you avoid draining the battery inadvertently, and the picture comes back instantly with a touch of the button on top of the monitor. Speaking of which, I like the controls on this monitor...I find them all easy to use, even with my over-sized hands. If we had more use for the audio function of the monitor, I might prefer to not have to go to the menu to change the volume level, but it's certainly easy to do, and with the volume all the way down, we can still watch the LED display for signs of activity and audio levels.
This system will support up to four cameras on one monitor. At this time, you apparently can only purchase additional cameras directly from the manufacturer, and they are pricey (over $100 each). But the company seems to be eager to please, and after using the system with the one camera for a couple of months, I think we will buy at least two more so we can expand the areas that we can monitor remotely. I guess that says more than anything else about our satisfaction with the product.
